Ponyboy Curtis? Jack Reacher? Alex Cross?

I have never heard of these guys. Maybe they’re not quite as iconic as some of the others on this list. Or they made a big splash at one point, but the cultural puddle they formed has since dried out.

The first one is from a book called The Outsiders, which is a book I’ve heard of recently, though I know nothing about it. A teen novel or maybe just a bildungsroman? Somehow it flew under my radar as a child even though I was a voracious reader even then. I’m pretty positive few people in my family (other than my wife) would know this character. The other two are wholly unfamiliar even after looking into them.
